~Plants~ If nature study be your goal, Take note: a single part reflects the whole. Nought is within and nought without, For what is in is also out. So grasp without delay this prize: That here a holy public secret lies. Rejoice in true illusion’s fame, Rejoice in Nature’s serious game. No living thing alone can be- It only exists in company. ~Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe All images shot in camera using a Microcord Medium Format Camera and Ilford XP2 super 400 film.

I got a beautiful Microcord Camera for my birthday this year. I love it so much. I have had a bit of an adjustment getting used to using a waist level camera. A Microcord, like the Roliflex is a twin lens waist level medium format camera. I have mostly been shooting Ilford XP2 super 400 film. This film is new to me, but I really love how the softness and the grain work on the double exposures I have made so far for this project. These images are part of a personal project named, ~HumanNature~ HumanNature is a project that I have been working on for quite some time. Both conceptually and in actuality. I hope to get a body of work together on this theme and do a portfolio review, and then take it from there. I plan to shoot this project 100% on film. I had not planned…

I am very excited to be involved in another group project. This one is 12 portraits, each month has a theme or suggestion, May theme is blur/soft focus/ shallow depth of field. I am starting in May, so though it will not be a full 12 months for me, I am still very excited to be included in this project! This photograph is one that I took on our recent trip into Boston. I took this image at the Harvard Arnold Arboretum in Jamaica Plain MA. I shot three rolls of film in my Microcord Camera that day. For some reason this whole roll is out of focus. The other two rolls were fine, I am not sure what happened, as not one single image in the roll was in focus. I was super bummed as I really loved this tree and was kind of kicking myself to think that…

I love summer! I love it when it is HOT HOT HOT outside and everyone else is wilting. I love to go out at 10pm and still have it so hot and humid out. It makes me want to skip and clap! That is how happy summer makes me. It is not summer yet. It is hardly even spring, temperature wise… But it has been getting nicer. So on a cool (or should I say coldish) Easter Day we headed to the beach. I love the beach. And I love shooting rolls of film with my Nikonos Underwater Camera. I can not wait to get back into the water with my Nikonos! So we headed to the beach, we got close to the water, but not in the water. I was so excited to even go close to the beach that I brought my Nikonos Camera along, and shot a…

Gosh! When I just went to do the 365 blog catch up, I thought I had only week 17 and 18, but I guess I also have week 19 to post. Time has just gone into a crazy vacuum these last few weeks! So here is also week 19! If you would like to read along with all of the daily journaling, please go to the official Wonder and Joy 365 2014 page on Facebook, you do not need an account to read along! https://www.facebook.com/phyllismeredithphotography365?ref=hl

I have to say that these last two weeks have not been fun.  I am lacking motivation to continue on with this project.  I am not really a quitter, and I don’t know if I actually maybe should just stop with this, or push on through.  On one hand it is taking all of my photography time.  I have done nothing other than this project really for the last 133 days.  I have other things I would like to give my attention to.  I really am enjoying getting back into film and LOVE shooting the Microcord I got for my birthday as well as my grandfather Julius’s Nikon F2, and the weather is just starting to turn, so I feel the pull to get into the water again with the Nikonos.  I just got 5 rolls of film back and between the shoots with Two Coyotes and this 365, I…

I am way behind on posting my 365 weeks on my blog. The last day of week 17 was a tough day, that was the day that our “beloved double pawed Amber Kitten” (as Meadow wrote on one of his headstones) was hit by a car that left him in the road. We have just now, two weeks to the day later started to get ourselves back together. It is, of course, always hard to loose a beloved pet, but to see your 11 month old kitten suffering and covered in blood in the street is quite a trauma, especially for a child. Time has not been spent on the computer as much, and I am behind in everything, from laundry to blogging. Now I am playing catch up posting week 17 and week 18 right after. The week started out pretty normally with some sunny days, and some rainy…

Week Sixteen! I keep a file of photographs for this 365, and already I love looking at the tiny thumbnails all next to each other. It is amazing to see the year changing day by day this way! Week 16 was a week of hikes, and Easter on the beach, and tiny friend’s birthdays and film double exposures, and somewhere in there I also broke my toe. I believe this is the week where the trees decided that it was indeed spring and have started to show a bit of green around the edges. Hope you enjoy!
