California, some of the digital images…
We go to California to visit my parents every summer. If is fun, and exhausting, and beautiful and heartbreaking all at once. My father and I, and now even Caleb, take way too many photos. Here are a few of my favorite digital images I took this summer. I also brought along two Instant Polaroid cameras and took some of my favorite instant images. I will blog those another time. My mother makes beautiful keepsake books for each of our trips… I can’t wait to see this year’s book! Feathered~~ Weeks Twenty One through Twenty Five
Welcome to the monthly Feathered blog post. We are just about half way through the year! When Lili Love and I started this project we had little more than a dream and a love of nature and all things feathered… We have come to cherish this little project, and we thank you so much for watching along with us. We can feel you cheering and sending love and are just so glad to be creating this project together. ~~Feathered, Week Twenty One~~ May you build a ladder to the starsAnd climb on every rungMay you stay forever youngForever young, forever young ~Bob Dylan Lili Love Photography Phyllis Meredith Photography ~~Feathered, Week Twenty Two~~ The boundaries which divide Life from Death are at best shadowy and vague. Who shall say where the one ends, and where the other begins? ~Edgar Allan Poe Lili Love Photography Phyllis Meredith Photography ~~Feathered, Week…
Feathered~ Weeks Fifteen through Twenty
Feathered, Weeks Fifteen Through Twenty I am feeling like we are hitting our stride with this project. At first it was an idea, maybe we could make our way through the year, one feather image at a time. Then panic set in, how can we each take an image a week, and include a feather in the image, without it becoming stale, or cliched? Panic, falter, then I believe we both saw the edge, and the possibilities, and have started to really explore this concept. I believe we have hit our stride. I hate to even say it, afraid to jinx ourselves… but the dream, which started as just the simple idea of one feather image a week, has turned into something bigger. Now I have stretched this dream to maybe (hopefully, because I am allowed to dream big right??) now the dream includes a book of the final…
Sleeping In The Forest
Sleeping In The Forest I thought the earth remembered me,she took me back so tenderly, arranging her dark skirts, her pocketsfull of lichens and seeds.I slept as never before, a stone on the river bed, nothing between me and the white fire of the starsbut my thoughts, and they floated light as mothsamong the branches of the perfect trees. All night I heard the small kingdomsbreathing around me, the insects, and the birds who do their work in the darkness. All night I rose and fell, as if in water, grappling with a luminous doom. By morningI had vanished at least a dozen timesinto something better. ~Mary Oliver She came over to have her images created. I made them with my Mamiya RZ67 using Ektar 100 film. We also did some yoga poses… They didn’t come out quite like I had wanted, but I love these portraits of her. With in camera double exposures, that…
A Day In On A Farm, Learning The Traditional Art Of Pine Bark Basket Making
We were lucky to spend Tuesday in the barn at Meadow View Farm in Easthampton MA, learning the traditional art of Pine Bark Basket Making from Native American teacher Jennifer Lee. It took her years to create the patterns we used to create our baskets. The process is fascinating and beautiful. She hand harvested all of the bark we used from a felled tree. Meadow made a large berry picking basket, a waterproof basket option was also available. Amazing as it sounds, you can fold up Pine Bark and create a waterproof container! What a beautiful way to spend a day, surrounded by wonderful people, all working very hard to learn this amazing traditional handcraft! The baskets are made of Pine Bark, and sewn with Spruce Roots. You can harvest roots without harming a tree, as long as you take less than 30% of the roots. Jennifer said it is…

Feathered ~~ April (and one week of May)
Feathered 52 April Images, with one week of May sneaking in! We have completed three months and one week of our project titled Feathered. I feel like each week we stretch our wings and our creativity and push the boundaries of this concept. As we weave actual feathers into our images, we feel the weight and lightness that comes along with all that a feather is, and all that a feather holds in our hearts, minds, realities, imaginations and hands. Please enjoy the images in their full size, arranged by week, Lili Love’s images on top, Phyllis Meredith’s below… Thank you! ~~Feathered, Week Ten~~ What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.~Ralph Waldo Emerson Lili Love Photography Phyllis Meredith Photography ~~Feathered, Week Eleven~~“That’s the beauty of it.
