Seven Rainbows~First Trip Through The Rainbow
Last Year Lili Love and I did a 52 week project called Feathered. That project is finished, we loved working together so much that this year we decided to do another 52 week project called Seven Rainbows. The idea is to post one color image a week, all year, with the result being seven full rainbows. This is the first trip through the rainbow, we hope you enjoy it! If you would like to see the whole Feathered Project, we have made a book, you can see it, or purchase it here… http://www.blurb.com/b/7849417-feathered We SO loved doing Feathered, and we thank you for following along with that project, welcome to Seven Rainbows! ~~Seven Rainbows, Week One (red)~~ Red is the first color of spring. A Snowy Walk With The Velvet 56
I am not one who likes the cold. I dread winter, dread the cold. But I do get pulled into a nice snowy scene every once in a while. Yesterday’s beautiful sticky snow, sticking on all of the tree trunks and lighting up a grey cold day called me out. And I wanted to really give the Velvet 56 a try, so we bundled up and headed out. I love how the lens picked up on the falling snow and made circles on Meadow’s coat and face. I love how dreamy the background looks. As someone who struggles with the digital look of digital photography, but then also struggles with the cost of film… I may have found my soul mate in the Velvet 56. Take a walk with us, this is what I saw… Zuzu is not a fan…. home to get all warmed up with her girl.
BoyGirl
I think I am ready to start talking about my project BoyGirl. This is more about stereotyping, social pressure.. what society sees, and what society expects than of gender identity. Though, obviously, it does touch on gender identity through the lens of clothing. Why do we “see” a girl when we see a dress? Why is it ok for a girl to wear jeans, and still be a girl, )but also, why is she often labeled a “tomboy”)… but a dress…. a dress essentially equals girl, and is therefore not for boys? Why is a boy in a dress so threatening? How many cultures is this true for, and why? Who really has more freedom, and why? This is just a bit of what I am looking to talk about with these images. These images are all created with a vintage Microcord TLR and medium format black and white film.…
Jade In The Snow~Trying out my new Twist 60 Lens
I took my final image for Feathered, a Project Lili Love and I have been working on all year, of Jade Soto. She posed outside of Artspace Hartford CT, on a very snowy Sunday afternoon. I picked one image for the final Feathered post, and one for the Wish You Were Here project I have been a part of for the past 3 (going on 4) years. In all honesty, though, I can’t pick a favorite image from this batch. We were super fast, the snow was coming down hard, Jade was not really wearing much, and I didn’t want to get my new camera and lens wet. While Chris held an umbrella over my camera, and Jade sat on the snow covered bench outside of Artspace Hartford, I took ten images, I love eight. I love the first because it looks like a still from a movie, I love…
Feathered, Final weeks, Forty One through Fifty Two
And that is a wrap for the Feathered 52 project. I can not believe it has been a year, I feel both like we have JUST started this journey together, and like we have been doing this forever. When we started out, we weren’t even sure we would find the inspiration to create an image a week with a feather in it. I a so so glad we persevered and created this body of work together. The weekly posts for Feathered may have come to an end, but this project will live on. Feathered will be an article in the next issue of The Long Way Home magazine, you can hear Lili talk about our project a bit in her podcast interview (I will put the link at the end of the post) and we will be working on a book. Each week has been a joy and a growing…
Happenings
I sometimes forget to keep everyone updated here on my blog! But right now there is a group show at the Webster Library in West Hartford CT by the WEHA Artists Emporium. The show is titled RED, and I have the piece entitled “Foggy Morning” hanging there until February 28, with a mid show meet up on January 26 from 6-7:30. Come hang out, meet the artists, have fun! Foggy Morning I was super honored to have “In The Center At Sunrise” win in the film category of The Monochromatic Lens International Photography Contest. It is featured in the December issue of The Long Way Home Magazine. Zella HumanNature was hung in New Haven at the All In show. This is one of my in camera double exposures shot with a vintage Microcord medium format camera and film. This is one of my most popular images!
Feathered, Weeks Thirty Five through Fourty
~~Feathered Weeks Thirty Five through week Forty!!~~ I can’t believe it, we are rounding the corner toward the end of this project. Week 40! Week Forty! I can’t believe we have come this far, I am just so proud of this little project and the life it has taken on. How far it is stretching our always evolving creative selves. As always, Lili and I thank you so much for following along, or for volunteering to pose for us, for cheering us on, for looking! ~~Feathered, Week Thirty Five~~ Live through this with me and I swear that,I will die for you….. ~Courtney Love Lili Love Photography Phyllis Meredith Photography ~~Feathered, Week Thirty Six~~Remember when we were two beautiful birds, we would say when the morning would come,You are silver and blue like the moon when it’s new, I was gold as the summer sun….To build a nest we pecked…
Feathered~~ Weeks Thirty through Thirty Four
Our Feathered Project is still going strong. I can’t believe we have managed to come up with 34 weeks of images with feathers. At first I was thinking about how Lili and I were hitting a bit of a creative wall… not that we weren’t still creating, but that we both needed a bit of encouragement. We first “met” years ago when we were paired up to do a holiday swap… and we noticed crazy similarities in our work. We had never noticed each other, even though we were in a few photo groups together, but there was no denying that our work had some similar aesthetics. Also in similar fashion, our children were growing up. Without babies, toddlers and littles running around, it can be challenging to find candid lifestyle images daily. But we both love nature, and wild children and feathers… so I said lets try to…
Feathered~ Weeks Twenty Six through Twenty Nine
Welcome to the monthly Feathered Blog post. Here you can see all of the images from the Feathered Project standing on their own. Feathers are such interesting bits of nature. Each one is so different, different in shape, color, weight, texture…. They are full of mystery and lore. Beloved by so many. Once we decided to do this project, we begin to see feathers everywhere. At our feet on walks, tattooed on friends arms, one tiny one gently fell out of the sky, slowly, slowly, slowly, to land in Chris’s outstretched hand in our yard. What do Feathers mean to you? What memories do they bring up? How do they make you feel? What does it mean to find feathers? Theses are just some of the things we have been thinking about while working on this project together. ~~Feathered, Week Twenty Six~~ “What lies behind us and…
California on Instant Film
I am currently obsessed with instant images. It all started when someone suggested we do a 365 on instant mini film… then I watched the Time Zero documentary, got a very old SX-70 sonar camera, and an instant back for my Mamiya RZ67. Honestly it was love at first sight. My first images were rough, it was winter, I didn’t understand how to keep them in the shade. Nothing came out. But I kept trying, and now I have a collection of 7 or so vintage Polaroid cameras found at Savers or Tag Sales, I also now have a Mint Camera, a Spectra Camera and I won an I-1… These images were taken with my vintage Spectra Camera, or my Mint camera with the Time Machine. I am trying to use my phone less, and wanted to try to do my normal, photo a day, on instant instead of using…
