The Philips Mill Photography exhibit is open as of today. I entered this exhibit because I love Emmet Gowin and he was the judge. I was excited to think that he would even look at some of my images, so I entered. I was thrilled to be one of the award winners, it feels like one of the highest honors to know that one of the great living photographers has seen my work and liked it enough to grant my image an award. The images selected are so strong and beautiful, if you have time, please take a look! The exhibit has been moved entirely online due to the pandemic. The Phillips Mill Gallery is located in New Hope PA. Meadow and I were planning on going to the opening. We were really looking forward to this trip for two reasons, we would see my friend Jennifer (who was the…

I have participated in the Brooklyn Art Museum’s Sketchbook Project for six years now. Meadow participated in the first four years of sketchbooks, so she has four and I have six that you can check out if you visit the library! You can visit the library in Williamsburg any day, it is free and totally amazing! When you are there you can check out our past sketchbooks by asking for Phyllis Meredith or Meadow Rain. The place is seriously floor to ceiling with beautiful sketchbooks from all over the world! There are a few photos at the bottom of this post from drop off last year. I never tire of feathers, I wish we were still doing the Feathered Project! This year the base of my sketchbook will be made of the cyanotype images I have been working on for the past month or so. I plan to draw, paint…

I was really brave and went to Paris…. alone. I have never flown alone and I speak basically no French. So to be honest, I was terrified to go! Chloe Lodge kindly agreed to rent an AirBnB with me, which was extremely kind, and made my final decision to actually get on the plane a bit easier. But, truthful, I was terrified! By the end I was taking the Metro alone, walking to and from our apartment alone and had enough French to make my way through buying bread at the pâtisserie alone. I have to say, I am quiet proud of myself. I was so excited to meet everyone, especially Lili who I have worked with for years, spoken to on the phone, texted constantly, done two personal projects together, but whom I had never met! I was actually afraid she would not be there like with the Griffin…

The Wish You Were Here Project holds such an amazing part of my heart. This project is going strong in the middle of our sixth year. We are a group of female photographers from all over the world who met through mutual workshops and friendships. Each week we submit an image that we feel represents our week. Then we blog the images, with each image flowing into the next. The connections can be subtle or obvious, but we always aim for a flow from one image to the next. It is the highlight of my week to see what is happening in the lives and homes of this collection of talented woman photographers! Week 01- Another Binary Birthday, Masachusetts This year we are having a group exhibition in Paris, as well as a workshop! Our exhibition will open on October 1 at the Spéos Institute of Photography, 8 rue Jules…

This sketchbook, “Crows”, is my fifth submission to the Brooklyn Sketchbook Project. It is such an amazing community art project. If you don’t know about it, check it out for sure! Meadow and I have each made a different sketchbook to send in, every year, for the past five years. We work on our submissions for months! People from all over the world submit sketchbooks full of all kinds of different mediums and themes, some books go on a road trip in a big bus full of traveling sketchbooks, then they all return to the library where people can visit and view the books for free! It really is amazing! If you are in the NYC area and are visiting Brooklyn, this is a great place to go! Stop in for an hour or a few hours to pour over shelves and shelves and SHELVES full of amazing little self…
